In april 2007 Lufthansa had 122 planes on order: Boeing: 20 (+20) Boeing 747-8i Airbus: 10 x 319,  15 x 320,  5 x 321,  5 x 330-300, 7 x 340-600, 15 x 380-800 ( + 5 )
Bombardier: 15 x CRJ-900 Embraer: 30 x E-190 / E-195.

In december 2006 Lufthansa announced the launch order of 20 Boeing 747-800 intercontinental (passenger version). At the same moment they ordered an additional 7 Airbus A340-600 and talked about fuel efficiency and the environment.

In 2005 Lufthansa was using 30 Airbus A340-300 and 10 Airbus A340-600 aircraft. They still used 30 Boeing 747-400. They used 63 Boeing 737, but only one of those planes was a next generation 737. They used 13 Airbus A300-600 and 13 Airbus A319. They also used 36 A320 and 26 A321. They also had 13 A330, two of those were stored. Their cargo fleet used 19 MD11.

In 2003 Lufthansa had a fleet of 30 Boeing 747-400, 29 Airbus A340, 6 Airbus A330, 9 Airbus A300-600, 2 Boeing 767-300ER, 55 Boeing 737, 72 airplanes of the Airbus A320 family, 8 Boeing 747 Cargo, 14 MD11 Cargo.

In 2003 Lufthansa was a member of the Star alliance (United, Scandinavian, Varig, Thai)

Lufthansa was the national carrier of (West) Germany.
